Bears vs. Seahawks Prediction and Pick: Deane's Best Bet for Monday

By Wyatt Deane — Spent nine seasons breaking down All-22 film for a college staff. Wyatt covers the NFL and college football through matchups and personnel.

Week 8 closes out Monday night with the Chicago Bears heading west to face the Seattle Seahawks at 8:15 p.m. ET. This one comes down to whether the Bears offense can solve a Seahawks defense that has been one of the best in football. I have two plays on the game, one on the total and one on a player prop.

The Pick

Pick: Bears/Seahawks Under 46.5 (-110 at DraftKings)

This starts and ends with the Seahawks defense. They are allowing 17.9 points per game, third-best in the NFL, and they have been just as tough against the pass as the raw points suggest. Seattle is giving up only 4.5 yards per pass attempt, the best mark in the league. That is a problem for a Bears offense that gains 6.4 yards per attempt and will need to throw to keep pace.

The Bears defense is no slouch either, allowing 20.4 points per game, ninth in the NFL. Put these two units together and you have games involving these teams averaging 44 total points this season, a couple of points below the posted number. The money seems to agree, with 67% of the cash on the under despite only 35% of the tickets.

What worries me is the Bears pass defense. They are giving up 7.6 yards per attempt, the worst mark in the league, and the Seahawks gain 7 yards per pass. If the Seahawks get their passing game going early, this game could open up in a hurry. But I trust the Seahawks defense to control the game and keep the score in the 40s or lower.

Prop Pick: Jaxon Smith-Njigba

Pick: Jaxon Smith-Njigba Over 7.5 Receptions (+110 at DraftKings ยท play to -100)

Jaxon Smith-Njigba has become the focal point of the Seahawks passing game. He has drawn 14, 6, 8, 16 and 12 targets over his last five games, and he is averaging 8.3 receptions per game this season. He has gone over 7.5 catches in six of his last 10.

The Bears allow 240.3 passing yards per game and 7.6 yards per attempt, the latter being the most in the NFL. The only concern is that Chicago has actually been decent at limiting wide receiver production, allowing the ninth-fewest yards per game to the position. But with the Seahawks implied for 24.8 points, Smith-Njigba should see enough volume to get to eight catches.

The Play

  • Chicago Bears/Seattle Seahawks UNDER 46.5 Total Points: -110
  • Jaxon Smith-Njigba OVER 7.5 Receptions: +110
