Cowboys vs. Eagles Prediction, Odds and Pick for Monday, Oct. 26

One game on the NFL slate tonight, Cowboys at Eagles at 8:15 p.m. ET to close out Week 7. These division games usually come down to which offense can stay on the field and finish drives, and this one sets up the same way. Dallas brings the better scoring offense and a defense that gives points back, which is the combination that pushes a total over.
The Pick
Pick: Cowboys/Eagles Over 44 (-107 at Caesars)
The Cowboys defense is allowing 26.5 points per game, 25th in the NFL, and that is the number that makes this bet. You don't need Philadelphia to turn into a track meet on its own. You need the Eagles to move the ball against a defense that has let just about everyone move it, and even a mediocre offense can hold up its end against that.
Dallas should do its share of the scoring. The Cowboys are putting up 25.2 points per game through 6 games, 12th in the NFL, and they sustain drives, converting 42.5% of their third downs, 6th in the league. Long drives against this Eagles defense end in points more often than not because Dallas finishes, scoring touchdowns 73.9% of the time it reaches the red zone. Red zone touchdowns instead of field goals is how a total in the mid 40s gets beat.
The history this season points the same direction. Games involving these two teams have averaged 46.1 total points, against a total of 44. That is not a huge margin, but it tells you the number is set about right for how these teams have actually played, and I think the Dallas defense tips it over.
What worries me is the Eagles offense, which is scoring 17.7 points per game through 6 games, 28th in the NFL. If Philadelphia can't take advantage of a soft defense, Dallas has to do almost all the work. I don't love asking one team to carry an over, but the Cowboys' scoring and red zone finishing give them a real shot at it, and the Eagles only need to get into the low 20s for this to cash.
