Fade the Public Narrative: Padres and Under Coors Lead Friday's Best Bets
By Frankie Moss — Frankie covers the news the market overreacts to: injuries, scratches, trade chatter. He makes a living on the other side of the panic. If the whole betting world leans one way after a headline, Frankie is already looking at the fade.
Two bets stand out on a loaded Friday night slate, and both involve fading the public narrative.
Start in Los Angeles, where Shohei Ohtani takes the mound for the Dodgers against Michael King and the San Diego Padres. The Dodgers are priced at -274, a massive number that screams public chalk. The panic is the edge here, the Padres at +220 are being overlooked despite King's ability to keep games close. Ohtani is a star, but the line has been driven by name recognition, not matchup efficiency. I'll take the plus money on San Diego and trust that the market overcorrected.
Out in Colorado, the Giants and Rockies have a total of 11.5, with the under juiced to -112. Coors Field always inflates scoring expectations, and that number will attract over bettors looking for fireworks. But Logan Webb faces Ryan Feltner in a game where the under is the sharper side. The market is shading the under slightly, and I'm following that lean. At this altitude, 11.5 is a high bar, the under offers the closing line value.
